![]() Today, we leverage a workforce of 7,800 highly skilled employees who develop, design and build what we believe are the best engineered solutions to the markets we serve. Created in 1929 from the consolidation of Curtiss, Wright, and various supplier companies, the company was immediately the countrys largest aviation firm and built more than 142,000 aircraft engines for the U.S. Bureau of Air Commerce introduced a new initiative challenging American engineers to develop the "everyman's safe, low-cost, airplane." And here's the crazy thing: they actually pulled it off. Building on the heritage of Glenn Curtiss and the Wright brothers, Curtiss-Wright has a long tradition of providing innovative solutions through trusted customer relationships. Volkswagen rewarded the girls parents by enabling them to 'test drive' the vehicle in the simulated video. The video below envisions the VW Hover Car flying through the streets of Beijing, China. Inventors crashed, failed, and in at least one particularly dramatic case, exploded, but the dream of a commercially viable flying car remained a point of fascination. The Hover Car impressed Volkswagen so much they decided to create a short CGI YouTube video. The requisite old-timey newsreel of stalled attempts followed. Radical as it was, it never really took off, figuratively or literally - it could make little baby hops, but not achieve full liftoff. The Curtiss-Wright Air Car was powered by two Lycoming engines rated at 180 horsepower that ran fans located in the fore and aft of the car. Curtiss installed one of his 4000cc V8 aircraft engines into a motorcycle and blew all competitors into the weeds with a run of 136.27 mph on 24 January 1907. Among Curtiss' legion of steampunk imaginings was the Curtiss Autoplane, the world's first realized attempt at a roadworthy aircraft. It started in 1917, with a contemporary and sometimes-rival to the Wright Brothers, a man named Glenn Curtiss. Army Air Forces and the SB2C Helldiver for the U.S. And in a passive aggressive twist of the historical knife, they're not around today because folks just refuse to support local business. Curtiss-Wright Corporation was a major aircraft manufacturer in World War II producing, among other aircraft, the P-40 Warhawk for the U.S. Chances are, we had them well before you were even born. It operates through three segments: Aerospace & Industrial, Defense Electronics, and Naval & Power. Good news, everyone: we already have flying cars. Curtiss-Wright Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, provides engineered products, solutions, and services to the aerospace, defense, general industrial, and power generation markets worldwide.
